For a lively Saturday night, try the Canadian comedy awards

Big night for improv and sketch comedy.
Hardcore comedy fans, though, may appreciate the comedy special Best of the Fest: The Canadian Comedy Awards & Festival even more.
The hour-long program has its share of laughs, from Jeremy Hotz poking fun at himself as "a Canadian great" -- Hotz must have one of the most infectious laughs there is -- to a mismatched pair of folk musicians who bicker and quarrel at a folk festival. Just catch their close to the show -- it's sheer genius.
There's a funny Second City parody of Candid Camera involving a mime, a baby and the baby's bad-tempered mom, and a delirious riff on Girls Gone Wild called MPs Gone Wild, featuring Parliament Hill's finest on a wild 'n' wacky R&R bender.
The comics in Best of the Fest may not have the showcase of Armisen and Poehler, but they have chops. Vancouver's Erica Sigurdson has a disarming way of observing the day-to-day. "I actually don't believe the Internet's going to be around much longer," she says, before segueing into a funny routine about buying pregnancy tests at a high-profile chain of convenience stores.
If you couldn't be at the Canadian Comedy Festival in person, Best of the Fest is the next best thing. Thanks for your time, I'm here all night! (10p.m., Comedy Network
